This year marks the 60th anniversary of the death of the Mirabal sisters aka Las mariposas. I remember when I first learned about Las Mariposas... I was filled with so many different emotions...sad, angry, inspired. Why hadn't I learned about these brave women before? It was one of the first moments I became interested in learning more about my Dominican roots.

Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal are "revolutionary heroines." The courage and bravery these women showed fighting for justice and freedom for their people...for their country was remarkable.

Now more than ever, may the spirit of Las Mariposas live in us and inspire us to continue fighting for what's right.

This design is dedicated to their memory.
